"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
~Matthew 5:3-12
Why do you think I just shared those particular scriptures with you? Well, when you have waited did you ever feel poor in spirit, mournful, meek, hungry & thirsty for God, or persecuted? If you are human, the answer is yes. I think it is unnatural to wait in this society, westernized culture- but God asks us to do so. Why? I am going to break it down over the next several weeks & months, but ...
-Waiting is beauty
-Waiting is faith
-Waiting is sacrifice
Waiting is something that leads to access in the Kingdom of Heaven. It denies our wants and deepest longings even for what God wants. It transforms our preferences to be aligned with the King of Kings. And waiting is really good. If God calls you to wait, it is because he has something better in store than what your mind perceived for yourself. And it is a gift to wait upon the Lord. I guess that is the key- what is the object of your wait? Is it the thing that you feel you are waiting for? Is it Jesus? Only you know the answer.
I am calling you higher today friends as I have been called higher. To shift from believing that I am not enough or even that God hasn't been enough because I don't have that career, the money, the house, the dog, the family, the husband, the story... and it goes on and on and on with discontentment. And our wait is terrible, why? Because the object of our wait, of our affection, is planted not in the sustainer of our lives but in this fleeting circumstance that we believe will make my life finally okay. I have not received several of the things that I dream of, but I have lived long enough to understand that nothing will bring fullness to me outside of Jesus.
In Psalm 63, David says,
"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name, I will lift up my hands."
Today, I want you to hear you were designed to hunger and thirst for God. It is a really good thing. It is actually the only thing that will fully satisfy your soul- Jesus. I don't know if today you are in green pastures or a parched wilderness, nonetheless, I call you to behold Jesus. He is the author of your life and the only thing that will make enduring your waiting season worth living. He is whom you are waiting upon. He holds the key to unlock the door. He wants to bless you, but he cares more about the condition of your heart than what you desperately desire. I truly pray that you would allow Jesus to be the object of your affection, passion, love, and sustenance today. He wants you more than you could ever truly fathom.
As you continue forward, I pray you would be planted in His garden where there aren't any thistles or weeds- only beautiful flowers. And where you are planted is where he has full access to be your sustainer for His glory. And you can trust him beyond all things because he is in control.
"Instead, his delight is in the Lord's instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.
He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams
that bears its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers."
Psalm 1: 2-3
What would it be like to have everything you do prosper? What a thought.
I honestly hope that you find peace with the season the Lord has called you to. And receive it like the gift it is & relish in the fact that he cares so much that he delays you to give you better. Blessed be the name of the Lord. May this season lead you into His gates with a thankful heart. Jesus, plant your people in your garden forevermore. And I love you, friend.
All my love,
Chloe <3
